The 45th Annual New Year’s Day Marathon Reading

There are three things to consider when the New Year’s Day Poetry Marathon sweeps you into its gracefully uncouth embrace – what it is, what it was, and who you will be when it’s over. An untamed gathering of the heart’s secret, wild nobility – over 140 poets together revealing not just that a better life could exist, but that it already does, sexy and wise, rancorous and sweet, big hearted and mad as hell. An avenging engine of resistance and eager vehicle of the nascent year. The Marathon measures its success through insurrectionist reframings of the universe, an in-it-together courage that crafts a community out of the riot of lineages and traditions we all emerge from. This collective effort also helps fund as many as 65 additional events every year. It’s our largest fundraiser, and arguably the most inspired ongoing literary event in the city.

This year’s performers include: Andrea Abi-Karam, Ammiel Alcalay, Justin Allen, Julie Alsop, Jonathan Aprea, Ed Askew, Daisy Atterbury, James Barickman, J. Mae Barizo, Peter BD, Jim Behrle, Anselm Berrigan, The Blow, Fabrienne Bottero, Lee Ann Brown & Janice Lowe, Yoshiko Chuma, Lauren Clark, Todd Colby, John Coletti, CA Conrad, Lydia Cortes, Brenda Coultas, Alex Cuff, Kyle Dacuyan, Matty D’Angelo, Ted Dodson, r erica doyle, Anaïs Duplan, Marcella Durand, Mel Elberg, Betsy Fagin, Will Farris, Avram Fefer, Camonghne Felix, Jack Ferver, Jennifer Firestone, Jameson Fitzpatrick, Dorothy Friedman August, Kay Gabriel, John Godfrey, Phoebe Greer, Diana Hamilton, Marwa Helal, Barbara Henning, Laura Henriksen, Erika Hodges, Bob Holman, Sophia Hussain, Cori Hutchinson, Paolo Javier, Pierre Joris, Millie Kapp & Matt Shalzi, Vincent Katz, erica kaufman, Amy King, Anna Kreienberg, Yaz Lancaster, Sue Landers, Denizé Lauture, Rachel Levitsky, Matt Longabucco, Erin Markey, Filip Marinovich, Douglas A.
