"The
Bi-Continental Chowder" ("La Garbure Transcontinentale,"
in French) is a 1 hour 35 minute performance that includes live music,
video, paintings, real-time sound processing with MAX-MSP-Jitter, and
the cooking of a soup on stage that will be shared with the audience.
Nicole Peyrafitte is
a native from the French Pyrenees and her performance addresses the
experiences of negotiating her identity across two continents and four
languages. "The Bi-Continental Chowder" draws on personal
experience but also on myth, philosophy, and on folk and popular culture.
This performance is part of Nicole Peyrafitte's on-going project “Latus,”
which takes its initial inspiration from the fact that Albany NY (where
she lives) and Luchon (where she is from) are on the same latitude.
Nicole Peyrafitte will be performing "The Bi-Continental Chowder"
at The Firlefanz
Gallery from Wednesday February 23rd until Saturday February 26th
at 7PM accompanied by the Capital District renown guitarist George Muscatello
who toured the French version of the performance with Nicole during
Summer 2004.
