Fasten your seat belts for
a Cabaret Nomade and
be prepared to embark on a fast-paced,
ground-breaking voco-visual musical
From French cabaret song and jazz
standards to contemporary poetry & original compositions, Nicole
Peyrafitte & George Muscatello's collaboration arises
from their shared desire - & need - to explore intersections between
music, voice and images.
Muscatello is a renowned
jazz musician in the Capital District. His playing - even in traditional
settings - demonstrates an open-weave understanding of music, more spatial
than linear, which moved Peyrafitte to initiate this collaborative experiment
combining her voice & visuals with his playing. Peyrafitte,
who has performed widely within and beyond this region, is known for
expanding, crumpling, redefining and dismantling the envelopes of multimedia
and vocal performance. She just returned from 5 months in Europe where
George Muscatello joined her for a series of concert in Southern France.
Peyrafitte uses a Max MSP Jitter
computer program for interacting with her visuals and sounds via a patch
developed by Holland Hopson.
raised in Luchon, French Pyrenees, Nicole Peyrafitte left her
hometown, where she was a cook, in 1981. She then lived in Toulouse
& Paris - where she modeled, cooked and worked for theater and
local television - until she moved to the United States in 1987 settling
first in Southern California and moving to Albany, New York in 1992.
Like the willful child in Marguerite Duras' Les Enfants, she resisted
going to school "because they were trying to teach me things
that I didn't know." Each step of her work attempts to fulfill
her compulsion to learn through a process of immersion that generates
performances incorporating voice/paintings/drawings/ collages/writing
& sometimes cooking.
Peyrafitte performs locally, nationally and in Europe. With
her partner, poet Pierre Joris, they have toured "SUMERICABACHBONEs,"
a voco-visual performance to Berlin, Austin, The Walker Art Center
in Minneapolis, Buffalo and Rochester. She has just returned from
touring (with George Muscatello & Pierre Joris) a French version
of "Cabaret Nomade" in Southern France.

is a well know guitar player in the capital district area. He performs
with The Brian Patneaude Quartet every Sunday night at Justin's, with
Jocamo, as well as solo performer.
Muscatello studied at the Manhattan School of Music in New
York City. He honed his skills with Wayne Krantz and Rodney Jones
while immersing himself in the music of modern classical composers
such as Bela Bartok and Leo Brouwer. The guitarist has since become
quite well known throughout the Capital District for his regular appearances
at Justin's, Savannah's, De John's in addition to performances with
heavy hitters such as Nick Brignola, Chuck D'Aloia, and Dave Calarco.
George brings a unique sound and compositional approach through his
many musical influences ranging from free jazz to contemporary classical.
He just spent two weeks in France touring the French version of "Cabaret
Nomade" with Nicole Peyrafitte and Pierre Joris.
