Thanks to let me know Dina. I thought about it while we were shelling them and came to the conclusion that when the pods are very tendre it might be possible to do that. So that would be either when they are just picked up or/and early in the season. At any rate I am glad to know it is done and maybe you can get your friend to give you her recipe?

hi nicole, i've had them cooked with their shells on at the home of an friend (she is indian) who has a restaurant in vegas. never had the nerve to cook them in their shells before but i can attest that they are delicious that way.

You write brilliantly, sensually, alluringly, interestingly, as usual. It was nice for me as a New Yorker, who doesn't know Jackson Heights at all, to read where to go, the details of the store you liked. and I love your wholesome Indian recipe.

Where we lived in central Mexico last year, green garbanzos/chickpeas in the shells were sold as a snack in plasitc bags sprinkled with chile and a squeeze of lime. You would see people walking all over town eating them and their fingers would be green from the experience. Delicious
